Matt Warren Continues His Reign As Chicago’s House Music Pioneer With “Music Is My Life”

One of the Chicago House pioneers and Platinum Award-winning producer-engineer, Matt Warren, has released a new album in ten years called, Music Is My Life on October 15th. Right off the bat it is an obvious title, because wouldn’t “music is my life” be an artist’s motto? But it is clear that in this album that music really is Matt Warren’s life.

“This is my first release of my own music in ten years. I’ve been producing, engineering and remixing for others, but have not focused on my creative needs for a long time. I felt like I wanted to do a record that reflects my journey as both a musician and DJ. I really wanted to give that old school feel to the songs..I guess what I mean is to record “real music” with live instruments and arrangements…which are kind of a homage of all the music I grew up listening to.”  Says Warren.

Warren is a Chicago-based DJ for forty years, and has been a producer since 1984, when he released his debut single “Rock The Nation”. This inspired Matt to cofound Sunset Records in 1985, which released several house classics. However, in 1987, Matt resigned from Sunset Records and founded AKA Dance Music. His experience clearly shows in his new album with creating remixes, especially in “La Rosa”, which is one of the key tracks off the album. There is so much soul and style in the song, it reflects the past and the present. It gets your feet moving whether you speak Latin or not.

It is the perfect dance music to listen to when at a party. To me it gives off some EDM with a mix of some good old house music, which I enjoy listening to from time to time. Music Is My Life is available on Spotify for all listening pleasures!
